Noam Arzt, PhD and Michael Berry, BSE. HLN Consulting, LLC, 7072 Santa Fe Canyon Pl, San Diego, CA 92129, 215-568-3005, berrym@hln.com

Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) are popping up all across the country, and models for deployment vary. Public health agencies often have existing registries or other systems initiatives which can be leveraged by an emerging RHIO. This session will briefly review five models of data integration and four models of application integration for RHIO deployment. It will then provide an analytical framework to help projects select a model based on a profile of data use and an assessment of data source capabilities. Since data messaging strategies are prominent in many RHIO architectures, this presentation will also map the data integration models to various strategies for message integration to help projects determine an optimum approach. Examples will be provided from various RHIO projects around the country with particular emphasis on projects with a strong level of public health participation.
