The HCAHPS survey is intended to be publicly reported, and public reporting of hospital quality data is an integral part of CMS's Hospital Quality Initiative. We will present in detail the results of two rounds of cognitive tests we conducted with over 40 individuals similar to potential users to ensure that the text and graphics could be understood by the public; engaged their interest; and made it easy for them to correctly identify the level of hospital performance on dimensions of hospital quality of importance to individuals and facilities. We will also present findings from additional consumer testing on how best to integrate HCAHPS survey results with the clinical quality measures currently displayed on the Hospital Compare website.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe how patients' perspectives of care survey data can be explained and displayed to enhance consumer understanding and promote use.
• Identify how patients' perspectives of care survey data can comlement clinical quality data, and challenges in presenting both types of data on the same website.
