School–based health centers (SBHCs) are providing health and mental health services to children and adolescents in 44 states. Despite on going concerns for the continuation and growth of this service delivery model, a position of equilibrium currently exists between closures and expansions. State support for the model has been a significant variable in their success. In 22 states support includes providing financial resources. Based on a follow-up nationwide survey of state agencies conducted in the fall of 2005, this presentation documents the levels of state sponsored support, oversight, policy and standards for the SBHC model. Medicaid and SCHIP arrangements in place in states with SBHCs will be described. Data from this survey will be compared to previous surveys and trends will be identified. Implications for improving governmental and non governmental support for the model will be discussed.
