The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) has begun the first phase of a project that would describe the public health services that a citizen can expect from his or her state government regardless of agency organizational structure. The goal of the State Public Health Services project is to create a common understanding of the core public health services provided at the state governmental level that can be communicated to a wide general audience. This session would be the presentation of the first phase of this project, known as Phase I. Phase I is scheduled to be completed by September, 2006 by meeting the following objectives: Constitute an advisory taskforce to provide technical assistance and policy guidance for the project; Secure buy-in and solicit feedback from public health system partners through meetings and conference calls; Achieve consensus on the methodology to be used in the development of the final product; Describe the range of governmental public health services currently being provided at the state level; and Set the stage for the next phases of the project.
This presentation will also address objectives for future phases as well as the implications of developing a core understanding of state public health services a citizen can expect from his or her state government.
