There is a need for college students to build skills to maintain or increase healthy behaviors both during and after their college years. This presentation will focus on how a student subcommittee, comprised of both undergraduates and graduate students, led by health educators from University Health Service and medical and financial professionals from the University of Michigan, participated in the design and implementation of a student health and wellness initiative. The subcommittee examined college health data, researched best practices at other universities, identified six problem areas and developed an innovative program to address the most significant problem. This presentation will focus on the role of students as researchers, data collectors, and program planners. A description and analysis of how students shaped and participated in the project, the lessons learned, and future recommendations are also presented.
