Successful workplace investigations and intervention studies depend on gaining access to individuals representing various perspectives on issues of workplace conditions and health and safety. Our work among health care and social service workers over the past decade has taught us that project outcomes are enhanced when genuine partnerships among labor, management, workers and investigators can be achieved. This panel will describe a series of workplace investigations and research projects from the perspective of a journalist (Ms. Gordon), union (Mr. Rosen,) management (Mr. Torino) and researcher (Dr. Johnson). Ms. Gordon will discuss her experience investigating the health care work environment through the voice of nurses and administrators. Mr. Rosen, Mr. Torino and Dr. Johnson will discuss a tripartite workplace intervention evaluation to prevent violence in the social service workplace from the perspective of the various partners. Dr. Lipscomb will provide an overview of this work and moderate this panel discussion. All presenters will discuss the challenges of working with multiple partners who often have competing interests and goals related to the projects.
