Objectives: This study assesses the net effect of exposure to health communication activities conducted as part of the Communication for Healthy Living (CHL) project on awareness of behaviors that improve families' health in Menya Governorate, Egypt. Data and Methods: We analyze the 2005 wave of the Menya Village Health Surveys, which contains data on married females and males in a randomly selected sample of households in 5 intervention villages and two control villages in Menya Governorate. This study will use instrumental variables and two stage least squared regression to assess the net effect of exposure to program-related health communications on family health. Results: Findings show that 38.3% of women reported seeing a CHL project “Your Health, Your Wealth” TV spot in the past year. Preliminary logistic regression analyses suggest that women who saw the project's TV spot were 1.6 times more likely to agree that a newborn should have a medicals exam within one week of birth (p<.000), 1.8 times more likely to agree that women should consult a health services provider within one week of delivery about when to start using family planning (p<.000), and 1.6 times more likely to agree that creating a non-smoking area in the home is effective for reducing effects of secondhand smoke (p<.000). Conclusions: The findings suggest that exposure to the project's health communications are associated with increased awareness about healthy behaviors.
