Effects of the war in Iraq are most evident in Iraq itself -from the loss of the infrastructure of health care and public health to the devastation of health care and public health workers; from the disruption of all communication and transportation for the people to the relocations and crowding. More subtle but no less real are the effects on the U.S. and other coalition countries. Our health care has been affected by the war itself and by the aftermath of returning vets and their families and contacts. We are also seeing the diversion of resources from vital and ongoing public health efforts such as disaster relief and day-to-day practice to the war effort.
