This session introduction and overview will (1) describe the rationale for conducting research on public health systems and the ways in which this research can be used in policy and practice; (2) assess the nature and strength of evidence produced by the field of public health systems research to date; (3) identify the opportunities and challenges commonly encountered in conducting research on public health systems; and (4) evaluate priorities for future studies of public health systems.
