This session will focus on the epidemiology of violence. Presentations will discuss reasons for the declining homicide levels in New York City, intimate partner violence and access to mental health care as well as social service utilization, elder mistreatment in China, and suicide. One presentation will show a predictive model to identify victims of intimate partner violence. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Discuss the two theories that account for decline of homicide in New York City during the 1990s 2. Discuss the implications of unmet need for mental health treatment for intimate partner violence victims 3. Identify patterns of interpersonal violence reported by women using welfare over three years 4. Understand the epidemiology of violent crimes against the elderly in China 5. List several predictor variables that the dental/oral surgeon can measure in identifying vitims of intimate partner violence 6. Identify trends, correlates and characteristics of subway-related suicides and decedents in New York City from 1990-2003. | |||
