Health prevention and intervention services are not universal. Health care professionals have the complex task of implementing prevention and intervention to populations sometimes unfamiliar to them. Challenges also exist in the delivery of health care to populations defined by sexual behavior rather than sexual orientation. Stigmas continue to exist and prevent a patient's comfort level with their helath care professional. This session focuses on the cultural competency needed for health care professionals of all levels.
Learning Objectives: 1)Understand the disconnect between health educators/practitioners/researchers and the populations they serve 2)Describe the complexities in prevention & intervention among populations discussed and 3)Understand the need for further improvement in cultural competency in the delivery of health care.
