This session reviews several innovative solutions to methodologic problems in population health research, including group-based zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) models for the analysis of substance abuse study survey data, generalized estimating equations and mixed models for the analysis of trends in child vaccination rates, structural equation models for the evaluation of public health interventions, measurement of comorbid disease adjusted differences in mortality risk, and measuring Cox regression model explained variation using the generalized R-squared statistic.
Learning Objectives: Review of logit, Poisson regression, ZIP model, group-based zero-inflated ZIP models applied to count data with extra zeros, and the use the SAS PROC TRAJ procedure. Assessment of the difference between random effects and covariance pattern statistical models used to examine vaccination rate trends. Use of structural equation modeling in the assessment of school-based asthma education. Evaluation of methods for measuring comorbid disease and adjusting for differences in mortality risk in outcomes research using large administrative data sets, and Examination of the concept of explained variation in regression models, and the advantages of the generalized R-squared statistic in Cox regression.
