"Peak Oil", also known as Hubbert's peak, refers to a singular event in history: the peak of the entire planet's oil production. After Peak Oil, according to the Hubbert Peak Theory, the rate of oil production on Earth will enter a terminal decline. This session will take a critical look at "peak oil" and discuss several examples and strategies to deal with potential health and environmental impacts of oil depletion.
Learning Objectives: 1. Learn why industrial agriculture cannot survive as petroleum becomes scarce, thus placing global food security in danger. 2. Learn about how public health internal environment has inhibited macro-environmental scanning through the example of “Peak Oil.” 3. Learn about a community model in development to strategically deal with the potential public health implications of oil depletion in a medium-sized city in the United States.
