Human Rights and War
Human rights are frequently violated during war. Of particular concern are human rights violations affecting civilians, especially women, children, and other vulnerable populations. Increasingly, civilians are targeted during war. Other human rights issues during war include torture and psychological warfare, forced displacement of people, and use of indiscriminate weapons, including landmines and weapons of mass destruction. This session will also provide a framework for approaches to protect human rights during war and the aftermath of war.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the session, attendees will be able to: Describe important aspects of human rights during war. Describe what health professionals can do to protect human rights during war.
