Health educators are continually looking for new and effective intervention techniques. The speakers in this session will describe several programs in which innovative health communication techniques have been used in effective interventions. The session will include a discussion of the use of tailored messages in promoting healthy eating, the use of community-based participatory methods in developing a barbershop-based education program for early cancer detection, and the use of an animation to impart information about the signs of stroke. The session will also include information about developing an e-mail inquiry response program and a program for using e-mail for online physician-patient communication.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Recognize major tailoring constructs (both conventional and unconventional), validated measures, and their use in survey-based research. 2. Define the potential role of e-mail in delivering health messages. 3. Articulate the efficacy of using an animation format to convey information about a serious health problem
