Engaging the Community in Nutrition and Obesity Prevention
This session deals with health educators efforts to improve nutrition and reduce obesity within the community. Presenters will describe a variety of ways in which the community and the family can be engaged in these efforts. Specifically, presenters will speak about engaging the client in developing their own health promotion program. In other presentations, speakers will discuss the importance of locale and the home environment in nutrition decisions.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Assess the role of family in nutrition and obesity prevention. 2. Articulate the similarities and differences in nutritional practices between rural and urban settings. 3. Discuss community-based strategies for improving nutritional practices.
