Understanding the culture of one’s clientele is at the heart of effective health education programming. For the educators of future health care personnel, training in cultural competence presents many challenges. This session is designed to provide information about developing cultural competence in future health care workers. Speakers will address a variety of issues including delivering culturally competent care in an online environment, teaching the basics of cultural competence to bachelor’s level students, and the use of cross case analysis to measure the effectiveness of cultural competency training. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Articulate and describe how culture influences health traditions, health care access and utilization, health delivery systems, and participation in clinical research. 2. Describe at least two methods for training students in cultural competency. | |||
