Improving the Community's Health through Obesity Prevention Programs
Lack of physical activity and obesity are increasingly recognized as major health risks. The speakers in this session will describe several programs designed to increase physical activity and reduce obesity. The session will include presentations about research designed to discover understanding of physical activity guidelines and individual perceptions about physical activity. The session will also include discussions of state efforts to address obesity and lack of physical activity.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Discuss policy and environmental strategies that could be employed to sustain a statewide physical activity initiative. 2. Identify barriers to physical activity and nutrition among African American women. 3. List the common characteristics of obesity prevention and control intervention strategies implemented by state health departments.
