Scientific integrity plays a vital role in the assessment and development of environmental health strategies. In this session, Schmalhausen's Law and the relative risk matrix are introduced as tools for examining patterns of public health vulnerability and health improvement. In addition, shcolars from diverse fields will address complex linkages between human and ecosystem health. A Swedish model will to alleviate major environmental problems will be presented. Federal, state and local initiatives aimed at transitioning the U.S. economy to a clean energy future will be discussed. National efforts among nursing leaders aimed at tranforming environmental health will be presented. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: Discuss public health impacts of clean energy; Identify at elast three environmental health controversies that have mobilized U.S. scientists and advocates in recent years; Describe nursing's emerging leadership role in environmental health; Discuss Swedish envrionmental quality objectives; examine Schmalhausen's Law in relation to relative risk matrices. | |||
