Innovative Theories and Methodologies to Improve the Health of AAPI Populations
This session will focus on innovative theories, methodologies, and successful strategies that are being implemented to improve the health of Asian American and Immigrant Communities in the United States. Discussion will focus on understanding the role of language proficiency on cancer screening for AAPI women, and determing existing data and research resources in the Hmong community. In addition, the session will also focus on understanding how community based participatory research methods can be effectively utlized to address health disparities in AAPI communities.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Learn how language ability can impact women’s health outcomes 2. Identify existing national, state and local Hmong health data and issues affecting Hmong health including the paucity of data. 3. Recognize key challenges related to conducting community-based, participatory health assessmens focused on AAPI adolescent populations 4. Discuss the experiences of bridging between an academic institution and AAPI community based organizations
