The 2007 Farm Bill is of importance to public health because it funds the central pieces of nutrition policy in the United States, the food assistance programs. The need to align farm bill priorities with public health priorities is a major focus of nutrition advocacy efforts leading up to the Farm Bill. In this session, an overview of health issues related the Farm Bill will be presented, and programs that are funded through policies, such as the Farm Bill will be described. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Articulate the need for health and nutrition focus in 2007 Farm Bill policy debates. 2. Understand at least one programmatic challenge to developing healthier food policy in the US. | |||
