The presentation will briefly review the history of American public health in the 19th and 20th centuries focusing on the milestones of improved population health. It will also trace the complex role of politics in assisting, confounding, and, at times, damaging public health work.

Learning Objectives:
To gain a basic understanding of US public health history. To appreciate the intertwined roles of science and politics in public health. To envision public health strategies for the future based on past experience.
