Group-based methods are used to identify distinct clusters of individuals following similar patterns of an outcome measured over time, or to provide a flexible approximation to a possibly complex underlying population distribution of individual outcomes. Proc TRAJ is a SASprocedure written by the authors that fits a group-based model to longitudinal data. Proc TRAJ is available free for download with documentation and examples at http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/bjones/index.htm. An overview of the model and software will be illustrated with a data application.

Learning Objectives:
Participants (learners) will know: (1) fundamentals of finite mixture methods and their relevance in addressing important public health questions; (2) examples of how to utilize Proc TRAJ to fit the finite mixture model; (3) resources available to assist in the use of Proc TRAJ.
