166927 Publishing with APHA

Monday, November 5, 2007: 8:30 AM

Omar Khan, MD MHS , Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD
We will discuss the possibilities of publishing with APHA Press, and also the audience's existing manuscript ideas. In particular, we will highlight publishing research in book or monograph form; writing for a Public Health audience; and strategies for successful book proposal to APHA Press. We will also explain the process of developing a proposal; writing according to APHA priorities; receiving competitive compensation (royalties or honoraria) if accepted for APHA Press.

A very successful aspect of this session has been its interactivity. Some of our best manuscript proposals have come from this part of the session. As before, audience members are welcome to ask APHA Press authors and APHA staff any questions in an informal setting. We will also be distributing copies of the APHA publication prospectus with instructions, and the publications catalog, with recent books published by APHA member-authors. Potential attendees are encouraged to send their ideas to me ahead of time as well.

Learning Objectives:
Identify components of a successful publishing prospectus for APHA Press. Start creating a successful manuscript proposal. Learn how to translate their creative and scholarly public health endeavors into an APHA Press book.
