3012.0 Publishing with APHAMonday, November 5, 2007: 8:30 AM
Oral
The 2007 APHA Publications Board session is intended to expose APHA members to the possibilities of publishing with APHA Press, and provide a forum to discuss existing manuscript ideas. It also provides a way to convey to APHA membership the strategic publishing interests of APHA Press for 2007-8. As previously, the session will host members of the Publications Board, and authors who have published with APHA Press. We aim to include authors who have recent, exciting books out who will convey their experience in working with APHA. The panel will discuss:
Publishing research in book or monograph form
Writing for a Public Health audience
Strategies for successful book proposal to APHA Press
We will explain the process of developing a proposal; writing according to APHA priorities; receiving competitive compensation (royalties or honoraria) if accepted for APHA Press.
A very successful aspect of this session has been its interactivity. Some of our best manuscript proposals have come from this part of the session. As before, audience members are welcome to ask APHA Press authors and APHA staff any questions in an informal setting.
We will also be distributing copies of the APHA publication prospectus with instructions, and the publications catalog, with recent books published by APHA member-authors. Invited authors from recent APHA Press publications will be present to answer questions.
