Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview:
The purpose of this institute is to introduce the discipline of public health informatics to public health professionals and practitioners. As the practice of public health becomes more interdependent due to the need to share data and information, public health professionals who have knowledge in this new discipline will be able to identify the role informatics plays in improving their practice. Many issues and challenges remain in the application of informatics to public health. This institute will provide insights to the systematic approaches and strategies used to integrate informatics principles in public health.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify the role of informatics in public health practice
2. Describe at least five key issues in the application of public health informatics
3. Apply informatics principles strategically to improve the practice of public health
