5182.0 Preventing Chronic and Infectious Diseases in Adolescents

This session focuses on efforts to prevent chronic and infectious disease and promote health among adolescents. It begins with an overview of neighborhood effects on childhood overweight and concludes with presentations on interventions for prevention of chronic and infectious diseases. The first intervention utilizes the internet to help teens lose weight. The second intervention involves a back-to-school collaborative to boost immunization rates.
Session Objectives: Examine the effect of the neighborhood environment on the prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents. Understand the opportunity and role for promoting health among adolescents via the internet. Identify key steps to initiating a collaborative and implementing a community event to promote adolescent health.
