The Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section holds its annual Materials Contest each year soliciting the best health education, promotion and communication materials for the upcoming competition held at the Annual Meeting of APHA. The contest provides a forum to showcase public health materials during the APHA Annual Meeting and recognizes professionals for their hard work.
All winners are selected by a panel of expert judges prior to the APHA Annual Meeting. The categories of materials include Printed materials (e.g., brochure, newsletter, poster, flyer, tailored message, comic book); Audio/visual materials (e.g., educational videotape, radio PSA, television PSA); Electronic materials (e.g., Web site, CD-ROM, computer program, video game); and Promotional materials (e.g., keychain, T-shirt, button, bracelet, magnet). This session will recognize the winners, during which one representative from the top materials selected in each category will give a presentation about their material.
Session Objectives: At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
(1) discuss steps in the development of innovative health promotion materials;
(2) define the strengths and weaknesss of the various forms of health promotion materials (i.e. printed, audio visual, electronic, etc...)
