173586 Health Education within the context of Health Promotion

One of the three major components of the Health-Promoting Schools Regional Initiative (HPSRI) is the development of comprehensive and sustainable Health Education Programs and activities.

The HPSRI, a global strategy, is directed to strengthen Health Education and other Health Promotion strategies within and around the school setting. The Health Education component aims to reflect consensus between the health and education sectors and to establish relevant partnerships with other appropriate sectors, to create, maintain, and/or enhance the design and implementation of comprehensive Health Education programs, as well as creating and maintaining healthy and supportive physical and psycho-social environments and the access to health services, in line/support of the Health Education teaching.

This presentation will describe the basic criteria for the development of comprehensive and sustainable Health Education Programs within the context of Health Promotion and will give examples of successful programs in the American Region.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participants will be able to define and describe the importance of comprehensive Health Education for effective Health Promotion Programs and activities.
