183547 Community Based Primary Treatment and Rehabilitation for Schizophrenia

This paper describes a controlled,crossover design of the community based supervised primary treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation of 853 persons with schizophrenia residing with their families in a Chinese rural area. Ss were treated either with titrated Typical or Atypical antipsychotic medication, were trained and expected to work p/t. Families were provided with essential education regarding mental illness and intervention strategies. Primary care workers were trained and supervised by psychiatrists and titrated dosage based on the appearance of positive or negative signs.

Dosage, clinical and side effects,relapse,morbidity and hospitalizations rates will be described.
