Oral
Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan, a four-day event sponsored by Iraq Veterans Against the War, featuring testimony exposing the human consequences of failed policy. It was named Winter Soldier to honor a similar gathering 30 years ago of veterans from the Vietnam War. Winter soldiers, according to Tom Paine, are the people who stand up for the soul of their country, even in its darkest hours. We will have Garrett Reppenhagen, an Iraq War Veteran to introduce, discuss as well as someone from the Peace Caucus. This is a Labor Caucus and Peace Caucus joint effort.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe and discuss the significance of Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan, a convening of more than 200 veterans who shared eyewitness accounts of the occupations. 2. Recognize that wrongdoings in Iraq and Afghanistan are not isolated incidents perpetrated by 'bad apples." 3. Describe and discuss the costs of the occupation of Iraq.
