4076.1 Crossing Theoretical Borderlands: Applying Theories on Collaboration, Strategic Planning, and Quality Improvement to Public Health Practice

Tuesday, October 28, 2008: 10:30 AM
Oral
The benefits of collaboration, strategic planning, and quality improvement are well recognized among public health practitioners. Theories developed in public health, business, communication, healthcare, and other disciplines explicate why and how collaboration, strategic planning, and quality improvement can benefit public health practice. The Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) process applies theories from these different fields into a comprehensive framework for public health performance improvement. This session will provide a brief overview of MAPP; discuss the theoretical underpinnings of the process; and describe the benefits local jurisdictions have experienced by applying these theories towards performance improvement.
Session Objectives: 1. Provide a history and overview of the MAPP process 2. Describe the theoretical foundations of the MAPP process 3. Discuss the benefits local jurisdictions have experienced from applying theories that result in performance improvement through the MAPP process
