This presentation will describe the program of research at CPWR The Center for Construction Research and Training. Internal and extra-mural projects consisting of surveillance, intervention and dissemination/ including research to practice projects/will be discussed. New and emerging issues in construction focusing on immigrant workers, safety climate, and the aging construction workforce will be addressed. Highlights from recent high profile investigations identify issues and recommendations for fast track construction, safety management programs, and training.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: Dr. Janie Gittleman is Associate Director for Safety and Health Research at the Center to Protect Workers’ Rights. She received her MRP and PhD from Cornell University in Health Planning and Epidemiology. Dr. Gittleman is recognized for her expertise in occupational disease surveillance targeting adult work-related lead exposures. Her current research focuses on Fall Prevention, Metrics for Construction Safety and Health and Fatal Accidents in Construction. She oversees CPWR’s safety and health research program, and participates on the National Labor Research Advisory Committee, and National Occupational Research Liaison Committee, and the Mountain and Plains ERC . She is the author of numerous scholarly publications in occupational safety and health and practical materials for the construction workforce.
