213439 Safe Use of Medications as a Public Health Concern: An Overview

Adverse events cause thousands of serious injuries and deaths each year in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration is initiating a public-private effort to reduce these numbers through the safe use of Medications. This presentation will introduce this effort to the public health community.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the contribution of medication adverse events to population health. List approaches to reducing this public health harm. Identify potential targets for initial steps to reduce suffering and death from unsafe use of medications.
