4269.0 Focus on faith and HIV/AIDS

Tuesday, November 10, 2009: 2:30 PM
Oral
The purpose of this oral session is to highlight current research and practice on the role of religious organizations and faith communities in HIV/AIDS. Many have called for further integration of faith-based organizations in the fight against HIV/AIDS, however, little has been published that evaluates faith-based HIV efforts. Together these presentations focus on describing various efforts to encourage the involvement of faith communities (particularly African American) churches in HIV prevention (campaigns, programs) as well as identifying the factors that predict congregational involvement in HIV/AIDS. Results can help inform future efforts to address HIV/AIDS through faith-based organizations.
Session Objectives: 1. Discuss the role of faith communities and religious organizations in HIV/AIDS. 2. Describe faith-based programs to address HIV prevention in diverse settings. 3. Identify factors associated with faith communities’ involvement in HIV/AIDS.
