3196.0 APHA Affiliate Capacity Building Initiative (ACBI): Lessons learned and best practices

Monday, November 9, 2009: 12:30 PM
The ACBI is completing its second grant year, and affiliates have experienced some lessons learned and developed best practices. Four APHA Affiliates (New Mexico, New York State, Florida and Wisconsin) will report on some of ventures they have encounter while increasing their Affiliate’s capacity under the ACBI. The session will cover various topics that directly affect the infrastructure and growth for an affiliate, i.e., membership recruitment strategies to advocacy campaigns to growing your own leaders. This session will provide insight from affiliate leaders that are on the ground building the capacity of their public health association.
Session Objectives: Describe the experiences of four state affiliates under ACBI. Identify potential best practices to share with other affiliates. Evaluate positive and not-so-positive outcomes of activities initiated under the Affiliate Capacity Building Initiative in order to help others move forward in their own capacity-building activities.
