This session will describe various forms of interactive health communication used to transmit health information and provide guidance and support to culturally diverse patients with limited English proficiency about health issues, and the research designed to investigate their efficacy.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe educational approaches for health-focused language instruction with pharmacists and healthcare providers designed to enhance communication with patients having limited English proficiency.
2. Identify outcomes related to both the benefits, drawbacks, and cost-effectiveness of using interpreter services with diabetic patients, from the perspectives of patients, clinicians, administrators and clinical staff in a public hospital system.
3. Discuss the specific benefits of using tailored clinical approaches, educational programs, resources and services on the health outcomes of African American, Hispanic, and Vietnamese patients.
