4006.0 Becoming Certified in Public Health: How to Get and Maintain the First Core Certification for Public Health ProfessionalsTuesday, November 10, 2009: 8:30 AM

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) is preparing its third annual examination for Certified in Public Health (CPH) status. Panelists will describe the creation of the NBPHE, eligibility criteria for the CPH exam, development and scoring of the exam, and the benefits of certification to individuals and the field. A major emphasis will be maintenance of certification. First-person and survey data about exam experiences will be shared. The panelists will discuss the availability and suitability of study materials, and exam validation and outcomes. NBPHE will share plans to increase dissemination and acceptance of the CPH for professionals.
Session Objectives: List three reason/motivators to become certified in public health.
Outline implications of the CPH exam for public health workforce development.
