Purpose of the Surveys: To track dietary intake, physical activity, overweight, and related factors for state-level surveillance of 9- to 11-year-old children and adults, 18 years and older. Method: The children's survey uses a demographically balanced market research panel method combining a mail survey with a telephone follow-up and the adult survey uses random digit dialing. In 2007, 823 children returned the diary and 327 completed the telephone interview; 1,408 adults completed the random digit dial interview. Results: Findings from these surveys identify demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental factors related to soda and sweetened beverage consumption. Similar state and national data sources will be compared. Relationships between soda and sweetened beverage consumption with milk and 100% juice will be discussed. Conclusion: Consumption of soda and sweetened beverages is heavily influenced by socioeconomic and environmental factors.
