226268 Evaluation of the Time to Talk CARDIO web-based programMonday, November 8, 2010
Heart disease is the number-one cause of death in the United States. Canyon Ranch Institute (CRI) helped to develop the Time to Talk CARDIO (TTTC) partnership to help patients and health care professionals make the most of their conversations about heart health.
Time to Talk CARDIO is a web-based educational program underwritten by Merck/Schering Plough that is designed to help patients and health care professionals make the most of their conversations by building communication skills to help better manage heart health. Canyon Ranch Institute coordinated in-clinic research to assess the impact of the Time to Talk CARDIO skill-building tool and resources among patients and health care professionals. The study design was put in place at a federally-qualified health center look-alike affiliated with the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. The study employed multiple audiences and multiple methods through which participants in the research could provide insight into their experience with and perceptions of the TTTC web site and associated tools. The patient wing of this study consisted of a Control and an Intervention group. All patients participated in a pre and a post evaluation with a visit to a health care professional between those data collection points. The health care professional wing does not contain a Control group. All health care professionals participated in a pre and a post evaluation and went about their regular duties and interacted with patients in between. Quantitative and qualitative data will be presented. Recommendations based on that data will be discussed.
