231073 Health for All Women NOWMonday, November 8, 2010
: 5:42 PM - 6:00 PM
Every year half a million women die of preventable or treatable pregnancy-related complications. MDG 5 is a formidable challenge to overcome, no question. What if though, we look at the problem a little differently? What if 1000 NGOs worked together to prevent 500 deaths each? The goal of preventing those 500,000 deaths is now within reach. The challenge of reaching the Millennium Development Goals and particularly MDGs 4 and 5 is in our limited ability to work in alignment at global scale and to develop simple and yet effective healthcare delivery systems. The author will present "Health for All Women NOW," a simple and effective approach of how things can work when everyone knows their job—and does it—to save women's lives. "Health for All Women NOW" is a cost-effective model that MIDEGO advocates for and disseminates through its online technical assistance programs. The presenter will discuss results and stories from various countries about how women lives are being saved. The model is based on four principles: quality, efficiency, consistency and accountability. She will present the “Health for All Women NOW” approach and describe how MIDEGO's online technical assistance and coaching programs empower communities to care for their women's health.
