4203.0 Health Services Research: Cancer Screening and Follow-UpTuesday, November 9, 2010: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
This session takes the participant into the nitty-gritty of cancer screening, treatment, and post treatment surveillance. Participants will learn about how and why doctors make many of the decisions related to their patients and how different these treatments can be. Barriers to screening and treatment will be fleshed out in discussions covering breast, ovarian and non-small cell lung cancer. Participants will also get an inside view of a smoking cessation program and the thinking of the clients involved. The insights gained from these papers will provide tools for evaluating programs of care in a variety of settings with an emphasis on survival outcomes and disparities.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe the variability of follow up strategies by oncology specialists with regard to breast and ovarian cancer in the United States
2. Analyze the variability of follow up strategies in breast and ovarian cancer, the treatment of early stage non-small cell lung cancer and lung cancer screening with regard to cost considerations, demographics and disparities.
3. Evaluate the impact of programs for breast cancer education, smoking cessation and lung cancer screening.
