Oral
The Healthy Child Care America (HCCA) Program was created in 1995 by the Maternal Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration and the Child Care Bureau, Administration for Children and Families. The American Academy of Pediatrics serves as the campaign coordinator for HCCA. The Goal of HCCA is to develop and strengthen linkages between health professionals and child care professionals in order to promote and protect the health and safety of children in child care settings. As increasing numbers of young children are cared for in child care centers and family child care homes in the United States, concerns for health and safety of children in out-of-home care has also grown and innovative partnerships, tools and resources have been developed to address these concerns. This session will discuss some of these resources including child care health consultation, medication administration training and supports for breastfeeding in child care settings.
Session Objectives: As a result of attending this session participants will be able to do the following:
1. Identify the types of child care arrangements currently utilized by poor and non-poor children and children in different race/ethnic groups.
2. Assess various child care provider supports associated with increased breastfeeding duration.
3. Discuss the child care health consultant's role in promoting health and safety in child care.
