This session invites the sharing of lessons learned for the purpose of improving the future work of community-based participatory public health. It is an opportunity to discuss what was done right and what could be done differently to improve outcomes. Data collection lessons learned should also be highlighted. Presenters are asked to discuss both successes and failures as a means of providing an optimal learning experience for session attendees.
Abstracts will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
1. Consistency with vision of CBPH Caucus
2. Level of Community involvement
3. Importance
4. Originality
5. Well-Grounded in Science and/or Participatory Practice
6. Consistency with Meeting Themes
7. Overall Quality and Completeness of Proposed Presentation
8. Community Leader as first author
9. Discusses at least one of the following issues: Lessons learned, barriers to trust, social change, social action, health equity, community engagement, community participation, community empowerment, community led, capacity building, and sustainability.
10. Social justice from the community perspective.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify 4 areas where a shift in procedures was necessary in order to make the initiative successful.
2. Discuss 4 areas where a shift in procedures was needed but not implemented and the impact that lack of change had on the outcome measures.
3. Explain data collection and analysis procedures and whether results were shared or not with the focus community.
4. Share at least 8 recommendations for successfully replicating this initiative.
