3418.0 Public Health Nursing and Healthy CommunityMonday, November 8, 2010: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

The purpose of Session 3418.0 is to explore community-based strategies for maintaining a healthy community. Exemplars include community-academic partnership to assess a community and promote PHN core competencies in doctoral students, community-based participatory action research involving community assessment and sociodramas leading to community health promotion, and comparison of nurses' and nursing students' knowledge and attitudes regarding community water quality issues. Discussion of the projects can provide guidance for planning interventions to promote healthy communities.
Session Objectives: The audience will be able these objectives:
1. Explain the educational value and community benefits of community-academic partnerships in planning and implementing community health promotion.
2. Analyze community-based participatory action research results, socio-drama results, and community survey results to identify strategies for promoting healthy communities.
