This session is designed to help new and seasoned advocates understand the ethics and legalities surrounding lobbying, advocacy and advocacy in the workplace. Panelists will address advocacy and lobbying laws and etiquette for employees in non-profit organizations, government agencies and other sensitive positions. The session will explain how the various non-profit tax statuses differ from each other and impact an organization’s advocacy or lobbying activities and the various activities that public health advocates can participate in regardless of their employer and/or profession.
Session Objectives: Define the difference between lobbying and advocacy activities. Discuss the laws and ethics surrounding lobbying and advocacy efforts.
