Oral
Given the social justice theme of this year’s conference, this session focuses on family planning within the lens of reproductive justice. Family planning encompasses all the decisions women face with regard to preventing pregnancy, deciding when to get pregnant, whether to continue a pregnancy, how to space pregnancies, as well as decisions regarding a pregnancy and birth. This session examines family planning across spectrum, specifically the barriers women face accessing reproductive health services. Specific topics include: access to over-the-counter emergency contraception, access to abortion, research on outcomes associated with the use midwives and out-of-hospital birthing for a vaginal birth after cesarean, as well as the political landscape surrounding the National Family Planning Program (called Title X).
Session Objectives: 1. Discuss issues related to access to emergency contraception and abortion.
2. Identify outcomes associated with the use of certified professional midwives for planned vaginal births after cesarean.
3. Describe the political factors that challenge the implementation of the Title X program.
