3201.0 The Community Health Planning and Policy Development Photo Journal Demonstration Project: Findings and Lessons Learned

Monday, November 8, 2010: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
In spring 2008, the Community Health Planning and Policy Development Section (CHPPD) of APHA released a call for proposals for photo journal projects focusing on community health planning and policy. The applicants were asked to describe the community stories they were proposing to capture, a work plan outlining how they would engage with the community and capture photographs, and justify a budget. Successful applicants had to be, or become, APHA members and had to present their findings at the 2010 annual meeting. Twenty-seven competitive proposals were reviewed. Five were selected based on project description, feasibility of budget, diversity in topics, methodology, and geographic location. Winners received small cash awards from the Section and some received equipment necessary to complete the projects.
Session Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be better able to 1. Describe two areas of impact of the photo journal projects 2. Identify two major challenges of implementing photo journal projects 3. Identify at least three strategies used to address the challenges
