As trade negotiations stall on the global level, publc health advocates are winning greater participation in trade policy, and favorable treatment of some public health protections. At the same time, the brand name pharmaceutical industry and tobacco companies continue to pursue their interests through regional trade agreements. The presentation reviews the status of public health objectives for economically and socially sustainable trade policies, as reflected in the WTO Doha Round, the Trans Pacific Partnership, and other developments.
