Healthy People 2020 officially launched on December 2, 2010, highlighting the nation¡¦s health objectives for the next decade. This launch marks the fourth itineration of HP and also serves as a new direction and foucs expanding the number of topic areas and looking beyond disease specific silos. There are four overarching goals for HP 2020:
„« Attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death.
„« Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups.
„« Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all.
„« Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages
This session will provide an overview of the final review for HP 2010 and a crosswalk to the oral health objectives for HP 2020. Specific focus will be on the changes for HP 2020, modifications, and additions to the oral health objectives. Finally, time will be allowed to address how various agencies are implementing HP 2020 in various initiatives, specifically the HHS Oral Health Initiative.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe the progress made as it relates to HP 2010 oral health objectives, specifically for the HP 2010 Final Review.
2. Highlight the changes and additions to HP 2020 oral health objectives along with objectives in other topic areas.
3. To outline what is new related to HP 2020 and future directions of HP 2020.
4. Describe how the oral health objectives will be highlighted within HHS and with external partners.
5. The role of Healthy People within the HHS Oral Health Initiative.
